Individual therapy is one type of psychotherapy in which a trained professional helps a single person work through personal issues they have been facing. It is an effective treatment fo a variety of emotional difficulties and mental illnesses. It can help improve or control symptoms that influence an individual's well-being.
Family Therapy is a form of treatment that is designed to address specific issues affecting the health and function of a family. It can be used to help a family through a difficult period, major transition, or mental or behavioral health problems in family members. It is a type of psychotherapy that involves all members of a nuclear family or stepfamily and in some cases, members of the extended family (e.g., grandparents). A therapist conducts multiple sessions to help families deal with important issues that may interfere with the functioning of the family and the home environment.
Couples/Relationship Therapy is for couples who are in a relationship, married or not. It is often referred to as marriage counseling. It helps couples of all types recognize and resolve conflicts and improve their relationships. The goal of couple’s therapy is to improve the couple’s relationship. This type of therapy can also help couples decide whether or not they should continue staying together. Although the focus of couple’s therapy is on the couple, there are times when the individual psychological issues of one or both parties need to be addressed. Therapy sessions are often designed to improve problem-solving, build communication skills, identify life goals and relationship responsibilities, infidelity, financial problems, illness, anger, and other life changes.
Child Therapy focuses on the developmental and emotional needs of the child. Children benefit from child therapy when experiencing various life events that include but are not limited to the death of someone close to the child, divorce, separation of parents, bullying, and the birth of a new sibling.
Adolescent Therapy focuses on underlining emotional problems that interfere with development. Through therapy, adolescents are helped to understand the causes of their distress and learn effective coping skills to deal in healthy ways in the future.
Geriatric Therapy focuses on the problems of old age and the treatment of individuals over the age of 60. This therapy helps individuals and families with issues relating to the aging process. Areas of concern include everything from the retirement transition to the end of life. A major issue that the elderly must cope with is loss.
